Jamaican veteran journalist Michael Sharpe passes

Jamaican veteran journalist Michael Sharpe died Tuesday morning after ailing for some time. The media fraternity was holding on to hope after Sharpe who was critically ill from contracting the COVID-19 virus.

In a tribute this morning Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness shared on his Facebook page, “I am saddened to learn, of the passing of veteran journalist Michael Sharpe, this morning. For almost 40 years Michael Sharpe dedicated himself to the craft of journalism and keeping Jamaica informed. Michael was fearless and sharp in his coverage and commentary.

I offer my condolences to his family, friends and wider journalism fraternity as we remember his unwavering service to media and Jamaica.”

Holness is not the only one sending tributes as Sharpe throughout his career impacted the country.

Deborah Ruth-Esther responded under the post “Oh wow. Rest well Mr. Sharpe. This man gave invaluable service to Jamaican Journalism. One that is distinguished and meritorious. A voice that can never be forgotten. Mr. Holiness, it would be nice for you to dedicate something in his name for his invaluable contribution in media. Walk good! Mr. Michael Sharpe.”
