A word to the scoffers

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts. And saying, where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation” – II Peter 3 v 3-4.

A lot of people will not give their lives to God because they are too cynical. A famous expression you will hear coming from many is “Yeah, from mi yeye deh a mi knee mi a hear sey Jesus a come and all now Him caan reach!”

Armed with this belief they have given themselves a sense of false security thinking they can do whatever they please and not pay the consequences.

The sad thing is that many have lived their lives as if there is no tomorrow. They think they will never have to give account for the way they have lived. Hearing about the second coming of Christ year after year it is very easy for them to relax and erroneously believe that this life is all there is.

Let’s not forget that a thousand years is just like one day to the Lord. While we may not know exactly when the Lord will return, we do know that He will.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up – II Peter 3 v 10.

What scoffers need to realize is that whether they believe or not will not stop the inevitable. Jesus WILL be returning to claim His own. His return is not optional for those who believe. It is an event that will take place regardless of the way we think.

Doubtful Thomases who question the second coming of Christ had better take note of the signs of the times. Jesus gave specific instructions on the things that would take place before He put in His appearance.

“And they asked Him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? And what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass? And he said….but when he shall hear of wars and commotions be not terrified, for these things must first come to pass, but the end is not by and by” – St. Luke 21 vs 7-9.

There are many more signs foretold throughout the gospels such as “nations rising against nation”, “earthquakes in divers places” and “famine and troubles” – St. Mark 13 v 8.

It’s time to take the blinders from your eyes and pay attention. You still have time to make things right. Scoffing will get you nowhere, but faith will give you everything.
