Officer Riddim…A Cultural Collection

There are riddims and then there is the ‘Officer’ riddim – a joint effort between BDLabs Music and Life-force Production that is being distributed on digital platforms by VPAL Music.

The Riddim EP contains 10 hard-hitting tracks. Cultural artist Courtney Porteous aka Papa Biggy teams with Mykal Rose on the title track ‘Officer.’ Other stalwarts who added their voices to the project include Lutan Fyah – Dem A Come; Luciano – Too Late; Kush from Louie Culture; Only the Strong – Mighty Mystic and Chase Vampire by King Mas.

There are other gems on the riddim…each pushing the message of peace and togetherness.

“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive so far” Papa Biigy stated when asked about the EP that was released commercially on iTunes and Spotify on July 20.

“It was great working with all the artistes who added their voices to this important project to make it what it is. In today’s world where trash is permeating the airwaves, it is important for us to keep pushing the cultural agenda,” he said.

One such message comes from Luciano, which sees the artist spinning a musical narrative with ‘Too Late.’ The song, which was penned by Papa Biggy explores the path taken by a misguided youth who diverts from the values taught to him by his single mother who tries her best to keep him on the straight and narrow.

The thematic thread continues with Lutan Fyah – ‘Dem A Come’, which zooms in on the escalating violence within impoverished communities in Jamaica. ‘Chase Vampire’ features the haunting vocals of King Mas, who chants about oppression and rebellion while Mighty Mystic’s ‘Only The Strong’ talks about the perseverance and strength it will take to survive and push ahead.
