Rihanna will not receive UWI honorary degree this year

The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus is reporting that Barbadian international singing sensation Robyn ‘Rihanna’ Fenty will not be receiving the honorary award from the academic institution because of scheduling conflicts.

The Grammy-award winning singer was among eight other candidates honored with the university’s highest accolade.

However in a statement from the university Wednesday, it said while Ms Fenty was among a list of eligible candidates, her management conveyed that she was unable to commit to receiving the honorary degree this year because of scheduling commitments.

The eligibility for obtaining the award coincides with being able to attend the graduation ceremony.

UWI is the largest higher education facility in the Caribbean, and honors those who have excelled in the arts, sciences and other fields.
