Trudeau announces he’ll run in next election

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau will be seeking a second term in office.

On Sunday, the Liberal leader formally announced his intent to run again in the 2019 federal election.

Trudeau, who was speaking at a party event in his Montreal riding of Papineau, also promised to tackle a number of challenges that include protecting Canada’s oceans, raising the standard of living for Indigenous Peoples and narrowing the gap between rich and poor.

Trudeau was first elected to represent Papineau in 2008, and was re-elected in 2011 and 2015.

The riding has been held by the Liberals for almost all of the last 50 years, with the exception of 2006 to 2008 when it was held by the Bloc Quebecois.
