WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange appears in U.K. court, fighting US extradition

Julian Assange, WikiLeaks founder on Monday appeared in a London Court to fight an extradition request from the U.S.

The high stakes hearing which was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic saw dozens of supporters, including fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and Assange’s partner, Stella Moris, gathered outside the courthouse, chanting, banging drums and calling his prosecution a threat to press freedom.

Assange, 49 have been indicted by American prosecutors on 18 espionage and computer misuse charges over Wikileaks’ publication of secret U.S. military documents a decade ago. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 175 years in prison.
