Zia Benjamin comes into her own

After cutting her teeth in the industry as a songwriter and featured vocalist for mega stars like Sean Paul and Major Lazer (“Jet Blue Jet” –  100m+ views), Zia Benjamin emerges onto the scene with her own soulful bohemian island gyal sound, which she dubs “rum shop blues.”

Over the past few months, Zia released two new singles including “Mr. NeverMan” (produced by the legendary Jamaican selector/DJ RoryStoneLove) in December 2018 and “Rudie” in April 2019. These songs follow her debut solo effort “No Fame.”

BILLBOARD premiered the visual for “Mr. NeverMan,” raving “Zia’s brand combines her resonant, soulful voice with genre-blurring songs that fuse smoky jazz, retro dancehall and bubbling roots reggae.” Her latest single “Rudie”(produced by Grammy-nominated Loudcity Music and DJ Sparks) landed her on the cover of TIDAL’s Reggae/Dancehall playlist #TidalRising.

On May 6, the song was selected as EBRO’s Beats1 Apple Music Discovered track.  To accompany the single, “Rudie” also has two remixes, “Party Shot” and “Dub,” to give fans every reason to play the track no matter what the occasion may be. A music video for “Rudie” will drop in June. Zia will continue to release new material this summer with XXXtentacion’s producers, Andre ‘Vibez’ Chevolleau and JonFX. Her debut EP Love In A Plastic Cup is slated to drop later in the year.
