Steven Irvenson Benoit, the candidate for prime minister of Haiti, withdrew from the political transition team that was formed to help the nation emerge from its challenges.
Mr. Benoit recently announced the news through a tweet.

Benoit was chosen in January 2021 to serve as prime minister of the National Transition Council, a planned transitional administration for Haiti put together by the participants of the Montana Accord, a coalition of Haitian civil society organisations. The Accord suggested a transitional administration with a prime minister and a presidential college of five people.
His departure is just another setback for Haiti, which has been in a rut ever since President Jovenel Mose was assassinated in July 2021.
There isn’t a single elected politician in Haiti right now. As gangs have taken control of the capital city, the police department appears to be in disarray due to the division of the force into many factions. Many police are connected to the armed gangs, according to locals, some watchdog organisations in Haiti, and international observers.
