Guyana grew by 17.6% since 2012

The Bureau of Statistics released its preliminary 2022 national census report today, revealing that Guyana’s population grew by over 17.6% since 2012, reaching 878,674 in 2022—an increase of 131,719 people. The population is projected to reach 956,044 by the end of 2024.

Region Four, which includes Georgetown, remains the most populated with 347,759 residents. All regions experienced growth, with Region Three now surpassing Region Six in population. Region Eight had the smallest growth.

The census also recorded 271,946 households, averaging just over three people per household, and noted a gender split of 440,882 males to 437,792 females.
