Raúl Castro, leader of the Cuban Revolution, saw off Díaz-Canel in Cuba, the Presidency of the Republic tweeted. Governor General Susan Dougan and Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves welcomed the Cuban president to St. Vincent.
“This visit will result in the consolidation of the excellent political relations and will allow us to progress in our cooperative relations”, the Cuban head of State said during a meeting with Gonsalves. You are the closest brothers we have, and we are the closest brothers you have”, he continued.
Both officials visited the Argyle International Airport, which Cuba helped build. It is Cuba’s first state visit to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a Caribbean nation with 33 islands and cays. President Diaz-Canel and many ministers will attend the 8th CARICOM-Cuba Summit in Barbados next week as part of his Caribbean visit.
