Elaine Thompson-Herah 7.24s 60m Season Opener

After months battling an Achilles injury, Elaine Thompson Herah returned to the track on Saturday, 620 days after her last competition. At the Camperdown Classic in Jamaica, she ran a 7.24-second race, finishing third, but her focus was on gratitude and enjoyment rather than results.

“I have to give God thanks for carrying me through that race healthy. I am grateful and satisfied,” she said, emphasizing that the race was part of her training and a chance to reconnect with her abilities. Thompson Herah expressed her determination to settle unfinished business and hinted at more accomplishments ahead.

“I know I have more in store,” she stated, preferring to work quietly towards her goals. The event was won by Levanya Williams in 7.17 seconds, with Shaniqua Bascombe second in 7.23.

Thompson Herah reflected on her emotional comeback, expressing happiness and appreciation for her support team and fans. “Thank you for the support and love; you guys have been very patient,” she said, reaffirming her commitment to stay humble and focused. For now, her journey is measured not by times but by her resilience and dedication to returning to her best.
