Jamaica Braces for Showers, Thunderstorms, and Strong Winds; Flash Flood Watch in Effect

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service) has reported that a broad trough across the western Caribbean is expected to bring unstable weather conditions to Jamaica in the coming days.

As a result, a flash flood watch has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas in St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St James, and Trelawny. This watch remains in effect until 5:00 pm on Monday.

The weather system, currently positioned southwest of Jamaica, is forecasted to produce periods of showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be heavy, particularly in southern and north-western parishes. These conditions are expected to persist from Monday through midweek.

In addition to rainfall, the Met Service warns of strong, gusty winds across southern parishes and offshore marine areas. Fishermen and marine operators are advised to exercise caution, as sea conditions are expected to worsen due to thunderstorms and high winds.

The Met Service continues to closely monitor the system and will provide updates as necessary.
