Dancehall and reggae artist Macka Diamond has set her sights on achieving more than just a Grammy nomination, she’s aiming for a Grammy win in the near future.
The veteran performer, who recently received her official Grammy certificate for her contributions to Sly & Robbie’s Grammy-nominated album Amazing, is more motivated than ever to produce internationally acclaimed music.
“I’m always recording new music, so that’s nothing new,” Macka Diamond shared. “But receiving my Grammy certificate really inspired me to refocus on getting more accolades for my work. It’s a great feeling, and I want to experience it again.”
With a career spanning over two decades, Macka Diamond is no stranger to success. Her music has topped charts worldwide, and she has performed in multiple languages across international stages. In addition to her Grammy nomination, she has been honored by the Queens of Reggae Island Honourary Ceremonies and the International Reggae and World Music Awards.
Born Charmaine Munroe, Macka Diamond is confident that another Grammy nod is on the horizon before she steps back from her recording career. “Creating hit singles with longevity has always been my strength. Songs like Bun Him and Dye Dye are still global hits. Sometimes, it’s all about how the music is submitted and the project it’s attached to that makes the difference between just a hit song and an award-winning one,” she explained.
Currently, Macka Diamond is hard at work in the studio, recording several new tracks. Among them are Kitty, produced by Jason Emanuel from the Netherlands; African King by Paypaz Chasaz Music; Back Back Me Love, produced by Kai Kai Records; While Dem A Watch, produced by Kemar McGreggor; Jockey by DJ Kendo from Costa Rica; and Workout, produced by Supa Hype.
With this renewed focus and a slew of new projects in the works, Macka Diamond is determined to continue building her legacy and take home a Grammy.
