Man shot after stabbing Guyanese presidential guard

Police are looking into an incident in which a man attacked a presidential guard, took a gun, and started shooting before being shot after demanding to meet Guyana President Irfaan Ali at his official residence.

The security guard who was stabbed in the neck and body as well as the assailant are both in critical condition at the hospital.

Investigations, according to the police, showed that a security detail was on duty at the south-eastern guard hut next to Carmichael Street on the specified date and time when a man approached them and stated, “I want the President.”

As a result of his agitation, he grabbed a knife from his jeans and stabbed one police officer five times.

The man then took a police officer’s gun and started firing into the vicinity. The guy was then hurt as additional presidential guards retaliated with fire.

Seven expended shells and a nine-millimeter pistol were found on the scene.
Security personnel surrounded State House and cordoned off the area.

“Both the suspect and the Police rank were rushed to the GPHC for medical attention.Their conditions are stated as serious. Investigations are on going,” police said.
