Masicka speaks On his decision to sign to Def Jam and his upcoming album

Masicka recently spoke about his decision to sign with Def Jam Recordings, stating that it was for the betterment of his career. Despite thriving as an independent artist, Masicka feels that his new international label can provide better opportunities for his music.

After one-and-a-half years of discussions and contract negotiations, Masicka made the decision to join Def Jam. With his first releases under the label generating millions of views on YouTube, Masicka is set to release his sophomore album this year. He believes that the new album far surpasses the quality of his most recent “438” and that fans should expect something special.

As a Jamaican artist, Masicka’s first album under  Def Jam, “438”, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart with 2,864 equivalent album units sold during its first week. In 2022, it was the third-best-selling project released by a Jamaican in the United States, including 30,400,000 in audio and video streaming in the country, according to data provided by Billboard’s sales tracker Luminate.
