KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Reggae Boyz have made it to the final of the Unity Cup after a thrilling semi-final match against Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago, which ended with a score of 3-2. The match took place at the Brentford Community Stadium in West London on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Jamaica started strong, quickly establishing a 2-0 lead in the first half. Casey Palmer opened the scoring for the Reggae Boyz in the 25th minute with a cheeky “Panenka” penalty, awarded after Ronaldo Cephas was tripped in the penalty area by Trinidad defender Jamal Jack.
The Reggae Boyz doubled their lead shortly after halftime, as Rumarn Burrell shone on his debut by delivering a stunning overhead kick in the 53rd minute, following a parried cross by Trinidad’s goalkeeper, Marvin Phillip.
However, Trinidad and Tobago were determined not to go down easily. Just a minute later, Isaiah Leacock struck back, finding the net in the 54th minute. The intensity of the match escalated further when veteran player Kevin Molino brought Trinidad level in the 69th minute. He converted a free kick that ricocheted off the post, demonstrating their ability to rally back and equalize.
As the chances of a penalty shootout loomed, fate would intervene in the dying moments of the game. Ronaldo Cephas was fouled again, this time by goalkeeper Marvin Phillip inside the box. With tension in the air and the match clock ticking, Richard King confidently stepped up to take the second penalty for Jamaica that day. Channeling his prowess from a recent domestic league final, King powered the shot past Phillip, securing Jamaica’s path into the final.
With their impressive performance, the Reggae Boyz are now poised to face either Ghana or Nigeria in the Unity Cup final, leaving fans eager for what lies ahead.
