PPV operators must install tracking to be licensed

Operators of public passenger vehicles (PPV) in Jamaica must now install a tracking device on their vehicles before it can be licensed.

Transport Authority which is responsible for the licensing of all vehicles posted the update on their Instagram page this week.

“All applicants are required to have trackers installed on vehicles to be licensed as PPV. For new applicants, a letter verifying installation must be presented upon approval.

Renewal applicants are required to have a tracker verification done at the Inspection Site” note posted on the page. 

This is an added expense for the already struggling operators check out a comment from one operator on the post.
