One year has passed and another has begun and it is my hope that it will catch us all trying to adopt a new attitude. Thinking back, many are wondering how they made it over from 2018 to 2019 as it was filled with stressful situations, confrontations, trials and a whole lot of persecutions. But guess what? By the grace of God, you have made it to another year and it is one that you should all confront with a brand new attitude.
Before, a lot of things got to you. Instead of ignoring certain situations you allowed it to eat away at your peace of mind until you felt like you were going crazy. Your new attitude for this year should be “what I can’t handle I will just turn it over to the One who can!”
Last year was chaotic as you faced a lot of increases in electricity bills, gas prices rose and fell, some food items went up, not to mention it seemed miraculous that your pay could even carry you from month to month to meet your demands. A few times you had to reconnect your light and water, but guess what? In spite of all those things you are still here and still enjoying God’s blessing.
This year you probably will have much of the same to look forward to but this time you will be facing it with a brand new attitude. You don’t know a thing about the future and what it will bring, but you do know the One who holds the future, so you will rest contented and be at peace with yourself and allow God to take you through your circumstances.
Last year may have not been so nice when it came to your relationships. Whether it be your co-workers, husbands, wives, neighbours or simple people you came in contact with. For one reason or the other you were at loggerheads and often times you felt like telling them some choice words – and yes maybe you did!
But this year as you look ahead, make the resolution that come what may you are going to obey the orders of Proverbs 15 V 1 – “A soft answer turneth away wrath but grievous words stir up anger.”
Yes, you have a great taste when it comes to nice things. You want to decorate your house with the best, and wear the finest that money can buy. You have maxed out your credit card trying to keep up with the Joneses and for the New Year you have nothing to look forward to but clearing off that big mess you have created.
It’s a new year and you are going to shed that old attitude and guess what? You are going to take this verse with you to help quench your uncontrollable spending habit, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me the strength,” Philippians 4:13.
Maybe you have some bad habits that plagued you through 2018, and you have not yet shed them. As you welcome 2019 don’t make a resolution that you cannot keep. You owe it to yourselves to adopt a new attitude and if you stay positive you will be a better person for it when all is said and done.
